On October the 28th 2008 we drove up to Fresno California for the Friendship Ceremony hosted by the Alliance Française . It took place at the Legion Post 509 where the newly painted and repaired California Boxcar proudly stands. The ceremony's main speaker,the newly appointed Consul General Pierre- Francois Mourier drove from San Francisco for the special day. In his speech he acknowledged the sacrifices made by the American soldiers during world War ll and reminded us that France was the first allie to the United States.
The documentary
- After WWII citizen across the US gathered together to help their less fortunate friends in France. They created a 700 boxcar long train filled with relief supplies. Then in 1948 the french people responded by decorating 48 boxcars and filling them with gifts and letters for their american friends. They called it the "train de la reconaissance". These meaningfull gifts and the endearing notes attached are the heart of this documentary.
