First stop Phoenix Arizona
December 07
Where we saw a display of some of the gifts at the Arizona Capitol Museum.
The exhibit is put together really well. Capturing the heart and the variety of gifts sent over by the French, most with the original notes attached by the French senders. The curator Brenda was very generous and carved out a bit of time from her busy schedule to talk with us.
We also went out to see the Arizona Boxcar at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. The boxcar is in great shape. This was the first boxcar Pauline had seen.
Austin Texas
Feb.08
We were invited to Texas to give a presentation about our film to the Society of the Forty and Eight (an organization originally started after WWI by a group of veterans who rode the boxcars).
Each year the group (aka voiture) have a pilgrimage to their Boxcar in Austin for their yearly meetings, party and memorial ceremony to remember those members who have passed away during the year. This tradition is a very meaningful use of the Texas Gratitude Boxcar.
The first week of September
2008 we flew to Kansas City Missouri then drove out to a great town
with the beautiful name of Sedalia. A town steeped in train history it
is a natural place for the Missouri boxcar to end up. In Sedalia we met
a very active Voiture of the Forty and Eighters and
interviewed some of the fellows who take loving care of their boxcar.
Our visit did not go unnoticed and we found ourselves a featured story
in the Sedalia Democrat. Click here to see it
